I'll never be ready, so here I am!

Hello friends! I’ve had this in the works for a while and just couldn’t put it out there. Silly, right? I took an online course through Makelight.com on blogging and creating a website. I had begun taking their photography classes when I got my Olympus camera back in 2016 and really commend Makelight.com for having classes that can teach something that is very foreign to some of us and making it achievable.

I love Instagram. I never imagined branching out further than those little squares. When Stef at Makelight put on the course about blogging I took it out of curiousity and the desire to learn something new, even if I never put it to use. I was curious about the technical side of how to build a website. Long story short, I ended up grabbing my name for a .com address and creating a little site on Squarespace. I wrote a little piece for Medium (also a course exercise) and there you have it, my first post for a potential blog.

I follow many friends on Instagram that also have a blog, almost as an extension of their Instagram. I love reading about their travels and life experiences and seeing the imagery a blog post contains and I felt it would be great for me to have this creative outlet as well. I dipped in and out of my Squarespace page. I made a bunch of blog drafts by digging through our photo files by the hour (and day and week!) and kept them squirreled away.

Eventually I started publishing them, but since nobody knew about my blog, it still didn’t really exist. Plus, I was thrilled that I could still edit them after they had been published, which made me feel less vulnerable. Then the nerves set in and I stalled. I’m not sure what I was afraid of? I guess even at 63, self doubt is real. Not every person has to like it. I like it and my family likes it. I have no control over the opinions and interests of others and thank goodness for that. The first thing I’ve done is go back and make some posts about things I’ve done in the past, like a photo album extravaganza.

Looking ahead, I have plenty of ideas. It’s just my take on life, really. My visions. My experiences. To be honest, I get a kick out of looking at it myself and reliving so many wonderful things. It won’t be all nostalgia, I will create new and interesting content but to start with, as a get to know me thing, I’ve gone back in time a little. I had to cut my teeth on something

I’d love to know in the comments what you would like to see me post about. For now, I’ll just try to be creative and see what comes of it. If you’ve read this far, I thank you kindly and I commend you xoxo
