Transformation of our concrete driveway to my dream cutting garden🌸
I have long visualized myself wafting through my garden on a summer’s morn carrying a basket and flower scissors, cutting fresh bouquets for my home. In this home I finally saw the potential for the ultimate flower gardener’s dream, a cutting garden. Long before I could fill up that trug with my home grown blooms I had some planning and lots of work to do.
I have always dreamed of but never imagined I would have raised beds that I could dedicate to a cutting garden. I guess it is one of the many perks of aging. You just have to live long enough to realize your dreams. This is how we saw our dream to fruition.
This is a huge photo drop so my apologies if it’s too much. You can enlarge the gallery pics and scroll through if you are keen. xoxo
This is the space that I had in mind for my raised beds. Our very long driveway really served no purpose as the garage was being converted into my husband’s workspace. We were willing to give up 30 feet of the driveway to create our cutting garden. The western exposure was a giant stroke of luck. As you can see, we had a big job ahead, starting with jackhammering up that portion of the driveway. Thank you to our dear neighbour Mike for his machinery and expertise. That concrete was so thick!!
At this point I think I could clearly see the work that needed to be done. This is where having trusted professionals work with you is so necessary. Meng and Sann have known us and worked with us for over twenty years. I knew the finished area would be exceptional and it truly is.
There were many details and steps that were needed to complete the four raised beds we had room for. Without an enclosure, all of our flowers would be eaten by our wandering urban deer so a pretty enclosure was designed. It not only serves its purpose of keeping the garden protected but it enhances the street appeal of our home.
We had a lot of other home improvements going on at the same time. You will see the house taking shape and being painted the beautiful Farrow and Ball colour Dorset Cream.

Here is a reminder of our before and after. xo
