My three favourite dahlias
I don’t usually pick favourites. Ok, maybe I do, but I don’t tell the others 😉.
That being said, I do have a few dahlias that make my heart skip a beat.
I have been growing Café au Lait for several years and it still stops me in my tracks. I understand because of its size some find it hard to arrange but I don’t feel this way. I make it work. No matter what the arrangement consists of, the Café au Lait are the stars. It is a huge favourite for wedding work. Each bloom seems to have hues all of its own. Some more cream and others tinged with pink. Sublime!
Poodle skirt is new to me and she is just a darling. Her unique style and diminutive size make her a joy in any arrangement and like Cafe au Lait, she draws your eye with her unique little ruffle and rich burgundy colour. She is an anemone type of dahlia and her blooms are 3” across and her growth height is 3’.
This is the first year that I have grown the pompom variety. I have a burgundy pompom that is stunning however, my favourite is called Cornell Bronze. Oh, she’s sooo gorgeous. I will plant more next year and some companion plantings to enhance the bouquets I will make with her. She is a bronzy orange colour, or is it more of an orangey bronze?? Either way, she’s a stunner and so beautiful in arrangements.
I had a hard time excluding any of my dahlias from this list. That being said, I know that I will always grow these three dahlias. I look forward to discovering more varieties to love and arrange. If you don’t grow dahlias, I recommend you try one of these three.
They will bring you much joy. xoxo
