Our bathroom renovation-goodbye 1960's
As you may know, we moved homes in November 2020. Our home, like our last home, is a period property circa 1912. The renovations required to make our new house our home were exciting. I have blogged about a few of our renovations previously. I will link them below.
The main bathroom renovation was, as you can see, a necessary step.
The first part was easy. Everything had to go. We were able to steal a little bit of square footage from a closet that wasn’t going to be used in the adjacent room and move the toilet to a better spot.
We chose to paint the walls in a Benjamin Moore paint in the colour Pewter. We added the chair rail and bead board and painted it a crisp white to reflect light.
We were able to acquire the soaker tub complete with hardware and the pedestal sink and taps from the secondary market saving hundreds of dollars. The toilet was new and the shower was custom done.
We added a heated floor (my first) and chose the small mosaic tiles. I love the way they look but I might recommend chosing a different grout colour. We might re-grout the floor tiles at some point, using a darker grout.
Here is a little before and after. At least the window is still there to give you reference. Otherwise, I don’t think it is recognizable. Don’t be afraid to make drastic changes. xo
